New Volkswagen Touran available for delivery end September 2010

First seen at April's Leipzig Motor Show, the latest Touran is lower and wider than than its predecessor; design-wise, it has more in common with the latest Polo and Sharan, with the front wings, wing mirrors, bonnet, both bumpers, tailgate and rear lights all receiving a makeover.

There are six different engines to choose from; two petrol and four diesel. Particularly worthy of note is the latest 1.2 litre TSI petrol which offers 44.1 mpg and 149 g/km of C02. The BlueMotion variant will do 47.9 mpg for 139 g/km of C02. There are also BlueMotion variants of the other five engines. There are three trim levels; S, SE and Sport.

Inside, the dashboard has changed and features a new steering wheel. There is a range of new trim options, and the in car-entertainment and cooling/heating functions have also been overhauled. The ability to seat seven adults on three rows of seats is unchanged (the third row folds flat into the floor) and there is still a five-seater option.

The latest incarnation of Volkswagen's Park Assist system (also featured in the new Sharan) is available as an option. This improves on the previous version by making it possible to park in spaces at 90 degree angles to the kerb, and also requires less room for parallel parking.

Standard features include:
- inside: climate control, CD stereo, six airbags.
- outside: alloy wheels, roof rails, ABS and Volkswagen's ESP suspension system

Recommended retail price is £17,585 on the road.
