Audi 2.5 litre TFSI engine wins international award

Audi's acclaimed 2.5 litre TFSI petrol engine has retained its 'International Engine of the Year' award, having been voted best in the 2.0 to 2.5 litre class by an international jury of 76 motoring journalists.
The engine, which is used in Audi's RS3 Sportback, and the TT RS Coupe and Roadster variants, uses Audi's FSI direct injection technology, as well as turbocharging - hence 'TFSI'.
The engine produces its maximum torque (450 Nm, equivalent to 332 lb/foot) over an amazingly wide rpm range, between 1600 and 5300, and also provides 340hp (250kW) from 5400/6500rpm.
This performance enables cars using it to do the following:
- the TT RS Coupe and Roadster will both go from stationary to 100km/h (or 62mph) in under 4.5 seconds; both variants have a top speed of 174mph.
- the RS 3 Sportback does 0-100km/h in just over 4.5 seconds, with a top speed of 155mph.
Audi's TFSI technology is no stranger to awards; in the years 2005/9 the 2.0 litre version of this engine won best engine in the 1.8 to 2.0 litre category
