Audi customers to get AV Link to Mechanic, and Fixed Price Servicing

This month saw two new initiatives from Audi. The first is called 'Direct Reception' and it is in the process of being rolled out across Audi's UK service centres after a pilot study where all participants stated that they would recommend the service to others.

Direct Reception - an AV link to your mechanic
Here's how it works: Audi's mechanic will wear a head-cam. This sends video to a monitor in reception, where the customer can see what is happening. A two-way radio link means that the diagnosis and repair of the car can be discussed as it happens. As well as being able to talk to the mechanic, the customer will also have access to a service advisor if they need to ask additional questions.

Audi's system a hit with customers
The benefits are clear. Not only does this allow faults or other issues to be demonstrated and discussed, but it also makes the process completely transparent. The customer can see exactly what is going on with their car and what steps are being taken to remedy any problems. They can see the work as it is being done, enabling them to judge for themselves the standard of workmanship.

Audi have stated that their aim is not just to instil more confidence in their customers, but also to demystify servicing and repairs and help people understand what work is being carried out on their car - and why.

To complement this, a service can now be booked online (via the owner area on Audi's site) and fixed price servicing has been introduced to several Audi models.

Fixed Price Servicing
Those buying a new Audi A1 can now pay an extra £250 for fixed price servicing for five years or 50,000 miles (whichever comes first). Standard scheduled servicing is covered by this payment, and for the first two years labour costs and many parts are covered by warranty.

What models benefit?
Those with A3, A4, A6 and TT Coupe or TT Roadster models (with engines no larger than 2 litres and older than 36 months) now have fixed-price servicing (£99 for a minor service, £249 for a major service) and a fixed price for five of the most frequent maintenance jobs.

These are:
- clutch replacement (front-wheel-drive £599, quattro £799)
- front or rear brake pad replacement (£99, or front and rear pad and disc replacement for £229)
- front wiper blade replacement (£39)
- brake fluid change (£49)
- cambelt replacement (£349)
