Audi triumph at 2012 What Car? Awards
The What Car? Awards are a huge event on the UK car calendar and the 2012 awards were no exception. The great and good of the UK motor industry were out in force in London’s Park Lane as the Grosvenor House Hotel was chosen as the latest venue for this prestigious event. Competing against other leading brands, Audi put forward a number of entries to the panel of judges and were rewarded with an impressive trio of awards.
Audi TT named Best Coupe
The Audi TT is no stranger to this award, and drove away with an incredible 6th consecutive win. The Judges noted that the 2.0 TSFI engine gave "amazing performance", flexibility, and had to admit that even after 6 years, they were still unable to find "another coupe that can match its blend of abilities”. To stay at the top of its range for such a period of time is testament to the enduring design of the TT Coupe. Both in terms of style and performance, you simply cannot find a better coupe on the roads right now.
TT Roadster - Convertible of the Year
For those who enjoy an 'open topped' ride, it is worth tipping a nod to the Audi TT Roadster, which grabbed its first award at this year's ceremony, as it was voted What Car?'s Convertible of the Year 2012. Over the last few years, Audi have made small design improvements to the TT Roadster, and these had accumluated to the point where the judges felt that the blend of: "pace and handling with everyday usability and showroom appeal” took the vehicle to the top of its class.
Audi A1 "Easily the best supermini on the market"
“Still easily the best supermini on the market" was the verdict of the What Car? judges on the Audi A1, which retained its Supermini crown following on from its victory in this class last year and it's 2011 award of Car of the Year. The Judges went on to add that this compact and practical car "thoroughly deserves our Supermini of the Year Award for the second year running.”
Sustained Success Well Deserved
The Director the Audi UK, Martin Sander, was understandably thrilled with Audi's triple award haul, commenting that this trophy glut was "testament to their timeless appeal." The What Car? Judges certainly seemed to agree, and Chris Hallett, the magazine's Editor-in-Chief, freely admitted that “Audi is on a roll at the moment".
