Energy Saving Trust give Volkswagen 'Fleet Hero' Award

Volkswagen's contribution to greener car fleet management has been recognised by the Energy Saving Trust, who have awarded them 'Fleet Hero' 2010.

The trust's Fleet Hero awards, now in their fifth year, are given to reward best practice in fleet management, as well as organisations that take steps to reduce carbon emissions resulting from business travel by technical or other innovation.

As the EST's Chief Executive Philip Sellwood said, the award "highlights those who have not only taken steps to help the environment but also to save money and resources."

Volkswagen's BlueMotion cars (including the Passat, Polo and Golf) are amongst the most energy efficient - and economical - cars available. In November 2010 a normal production Passat set a world record by travelling 1,526 miles on one tank of normal diesel. But as well as developing more efficient internal combustion engines, Volkswagen are also developing hydrogen fuel cells and electric cars for the future.

Present at the award cermony was Transport Minister Norman Baker MP, who said that all fleets, large or small, could "make an active and meaningful contribution today" to tackling climate change by using "greener, cleaner vehicles", and "improving fuel consumption".
