Golf Blue eMotion Wins RAC Future Car Challenge Again

The Golf Blue eMotion was heralded the Most Energy Efficient Regular Car in the prototype class as a pre-production electric vehicle romped to victory in the RAC Future Car Challenge.

VW Golf Bluemotion

The challenge was to use the least energy on a journey to London's Pall Mall from Madeira Drive in Brighton; a course 57 miles long.

Skillfully driven by Folko Rohode and co-driver Fabienne Kleinert, the winning vehicle out-competed a wide range of diesel cars and hybrid models to claim first prize.

Cutting Edge Economy
With a range of around 100 miles in average conditions, the Golf Blue eMotion is powered by lithium-ion batteries and has a peak power output or 115 PS. Able to get to 62mph in just 11.8 seconds from rest and with a top speed of 86mph it's perfectly suited for economical inner city driving with the ability to carry five adults in complete comfort and still offer boot space.

The Passat Bluemotion
Volkswagen entered another vehicle into the RAC Future Car Challenge, a production Passat BlueMotion which is regarded as one of the lowest polluting and efficient internal combustion engined vehicles on the market right now.

Powered by a 1.6 Litre diesel engine with a fuel economy of 68.9 mpg, the Passat aquitted itself adequately too, but was unable to better the Golf Blue eMotion's energy usage over the course.

While the Passat is available to buy now, the latest version of the Golf Blue eMotion is due to hit the market before 2014. No doubt it will prove to be a wise move for any who choose to aquire it.
