Jetta Hybrid - Volkswagen's New Electric Project

The old town of Detroit hosted the North American Auto Show last year, and Volkswagen chose this event to unveil their latest venture into electric powered technology - the new Hybrid Jetta.

VW Jetta Hybrid

Modified Design
Similar in appearance to other Jettas, the Hybrid is marked out by several stylish alterations to the bodywork including new headlight design, rear and front spoilers and 15 inch alloy wheels accompanied with low rolling resistance tires. Several features combine to make the Hybrid Jetta an extremely soothing driving experience. Impressive sound reduction is achieved via thicker front and side acoustic window glass, a specially designed exhaust system and the electric drive.

Across the specifications, features include a 400 Watt Fender sound system, reversing camera, fog lights, heated front seats, keyless entry system, RNS 315 satellite navigation, a glass sunroof, leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, Bluetooth phone integration and an interface for iPod connectivity.

Hybrid Power
The power behind the Hybrid is supplied by a 1.4 litre TSI 150 PS petrol engine combined with a 20kw eletric motor. This combination is capable of taking the Hybrid Jetta from 0 to 60mph in less than nine seconds, and boasts a 20 percent fuel economy increase over equivalent petrol powered engines. The Hybrid Jetta is a parallel hybrid, similar to the Touareg Hybrid, giving the driver the control to run the vehicle in full electric or full petrol modes, or use both modes at the same time for maximum performance.

Disappointment for UK Drivers
Whilst the Jetta Hybrid launches in North America in November 2012, unfortunatley there are currently no plans to sell this model in the UK. But if you ever need an excuse to go on a driving holiday of the States in a hired car, the new Hybrid Jetta may just provide one for you.
