The Icon Returns - new VW Beetle arrives Spring 2012

There’s Hollywood’s biggest icons, and then there’s The VW Beetle. An incomparable class of historic glory, The Beetle has been re-vamped and is almost ready to be yours.

Whilst we’ve been eagerly awaiting the release, the cogs of the Volkswagen headquarters have been turning, putting every effort in to ensure that this vehicle of pure splendour is the very best that it can be.

Debuted at Shanghai Motor Show in April, The Beetle is substantially longer, wider and lower than previous models, but still retains the traditional three doors and four seats.

The Beetle comes in three trim levels - ‘Beetle’, ‘Design’ and ‘Sport’ - each with their own unique approach to the classic Beetle image. At a starting price of £16,490, the 3-door 1.2 TSI 105PS ‘Beetle’ comes with a 7 Speed auto DSG, one petrol engine and a range of modern technology. The design and attributes reflect closely the original Beetle. The ‘Design’ steps up a level, with a 6-speed manual gearbox, 7-speed auto DSG, and choice of two petrol engines for a starting price of £18,895. Concluding the range is the ‘Sport’, a modern twist on the traditional Beetle, starting from £20,220. With a 1.4 TSI 160PS engine, a 6-speed manual gearbox, 18" 'Twister' alloy wheels, front sport seats and heat insulating tinted glass, the ‘Sport’ marks a new era for the Beetle.

The exterior of The Beetle remains as characteristic and iconic as ever before, yet the interior marks a new venture for the classic Volkswagen. Gone is the flower vase, and in its place is new technology, optional satellite navigation systems and keyless entry and start. The Beetle has reinvented itself as a cool, modern car which oozes masculinity; a far cry from its previous image.
