Volkswagen Golf wins more awards for Summer 2011

This month saw two more accolades for the ever-popular VW Golf, as it won 'Best Small Family Car' at the Honest John Awards and also 'Best Lower Medium Car 2011' at the Fleet World Honours Awards.
This was the first Honest John Awards, and the prizes were awarded solely on the number of searches done on HonestJohn.co.uk by its users, indicating the cars that are most in demand from the UK public. Other VW models to be shortlisted were the Polo (in the 'Small Hatchback' category), the Passat (in the 'Large Family Car' category) and both the Touran and Sharan (in the 'People Carrier' category).
The Fleet World Honours Awards were held at the RAC's London Clubhouse in Pall Mall. The judges are all editors of Fleet World magazine; their decisions are based on market and residual value, maintenance costs, fleet registrations and reliability data provided from a variety of sources including ALD, Hitachi, ING, EurotaxGlass and SMMT.
Judges remarked on the Golf's "strong residual values" and "dependable... performance", and added that the latest BlueMotion Golf "does something few cars can do: it matches its on-paper claims."
These new prizes are just the latest in a long line of awards for the Golf, which most recently include 'Best Small Family Car' from What Car?, 'Best Compact Family Car' from Auto Express, ACFO 'Car of the Year' and Fleet News 'Best Lower Medium Car'. As Volkswagen's representative commented when collecting the award, the Glf continues to be a car that pleases both drivers and fleet managers.
