VW Scirocco wins 'Best Sports Car' at Parkers' New Car Awards

Motoring website Parkers launched their 'Cost of Motoring' tool at the start of 2011, which aims to show potential car buyers the true cost of their intended purchase (whether new or used) by taking into account factors like tax, the cost of maintenance and servicing, fuel efficiency, as well as resale value.

Their New Car awards are based mainly on this data, under the banner 'The cars that make your cash go further'.

This year, at the first awards, Volkswagen's Scirocco (the 1.4 litre petrol engine model) has won the Sports Car category.

Parkers' editor Kieren Puffett stated that, despite being economical to run, the Scirocco's great handling and refined ride means that it "really delivers as a sports car" that is "huge fun".

The Scirocco's average fuel consumption is 44mpg on a combined cycle, and will only set you back £125 for road tax at present. Puffett urged potential buyers not to consider a 1.4 litre engine too small, saying that VW's petrol TSI engine was "a gem", with the car capable of 0-60 in under 10 seconds and a top speed of over 120mph.
