More of a two seater than a four seater (taller adults are unlikely to be comfortable in the back due to the sloping roof), the new Beetle is basically a Golf at heart, but aimed at singles and couples - and popular with the ladies. The rear seats fold down to increase boot space. Fuel economy suffers slightly due to its weight, but road handling and cornering both benefit enormously. Expect to get mid to high 30s mpg for the petrol models; the diesel will do 53mpg. With the reliability, ride and responsive steering you'd expect given that it is a Golf in Bug's clothes, plus the modern classic look, it's easy to understand why it has plenty of fans.
